Teeth Retainers are appliances which maintain and hold the alignment of your teeth and after the completion of active orthodontic treatment (braces).

Maintain your new smile!

Retainers are usually passive and are not designed to move teeth. Even after orthodontic treatment teeth can lose their alignment over time. Retainers are designed to prevent such unwanted changes.

Dr Hardman will recommend the best type of retainer for your teeth.

There are three basic types of retainers:

  1. Clear retainers – made from clear plastic
  2. Fixed retainers – are cemented to the back of your teeth indefinitely; and
  3. Hawley retainers – made of acrylic and wire, and are often referred to as ‘plates’
